MATERSBIER Opening

Last weekend we had the launch party for MATERSBIER. I was really excited to see my work on the walls and extremely pleased with the space. The brick and high ceilings of St Catherine’s are a perfect setting for my golden paintings. With all the community events happening in the church building, it’s been really amazing to see the diversity of people seeing my work.

We had a good time at the launch party. My husband and I brewed two beers for it. The first is our Fog beer—a San Francisco steam beer that we have made for a long time. Traditionally the beer was cooled on the rooftops in San Francisco, and you could see the steam rising off them. The second beer we made is our Oyster Card stout—a traditional beer to London where you boil oysters in a dark stout beer. The space in the gallery has tables and chairs, and anyone coming in to see the work could really just hang out and have a pint. And that was really the point of everything: for everyone to share a pint and connect more with someone. I really wanted beer and painting to be a point of connection.

Thanks to everyone who came out to see the work! I’m really glad I got to share it with everyone, and it means a lot to share my first solo exhibition with so many new friends here in London as well as old friends from afar! MATERSBIER is open until 10th November if you want to stop in.
